Most supervisors come from the
ranks -- good employees who are given an opportunity to
advance their careers. Usually this transition occurs rapidly,
requiring the supervisor to learn management skills by trial
and error while trying to get the work done. This program
series is designed to enhance the supervisor's skills through
formal education that supports the supervisor's on-the-job
learning experiences.
Concept:
A series of 5 programs covering the
fundamentals of supervisory management. Surveys of
participants and participating companies verify that the
topics covered in these programs are an essential part of a
supervisor's knowledge base.
Target
Audience: Recently
promoted supervisors who need to learn supervisory management
skills. Experienced supervisors who have no formal training,
or who seek refresher programs to bring skills up to date.
Selected employees being groomed for possible supervisory
positions.
Format: Presentations combined with case studies,
videos, role plays, games, exercises and homework. The
presentations provide a framework of knowledge. Each
presentation is supported by a case study or other exercise so
participants can "try-out" the concepts.
Participants then share their experiences and learn from the
experiences of other participants through class discussions.
Participants also apply program concepts on their jobs through
homework assignments.

programs may be viewed by clicking on the titles.

thus allowing the supervisor to balance education time with
the time needed for supervisory duties.
